can you expect from a Greenleaf
Naturally, you can
expect detailed, practical advice about how to turn your manuscript into a
book with solid commercial value.
I'll assess your manuscript's strengths and weaknesses, and I'll
show you how to improve plot structure, scene development,
characterization, viewpoint, physical setting, narrative style, and other elements. I'll use examples from
your manuscript to illustrate problems, and I'll rewrite passages and scenes
in order to show you how to fix the problems. If you're having trouble with character viewpoint, I'll use
examples from your manuscript to show you how to firm up viewpoint
throughout your manuscript. If you burden
your scenes with too much physical setting, I'll note specific examples so
you can see where it should be cut back. I'll show you how to bring your
characters to life, how to add dramatic focus to your scenes, how to keep
your story line from wandering off track. That's the kind of
practical, professional guidance that will help you break into the tough
world of publishing.
But you'll get even
more from a Greenleaf critique.
Besides giving you the
guidance to improve your manuscript, I'll also show you how to become a better writer.
In addition to my writing career, I've been a creative writing instructor
for many years. I know how to use your manuscript as a teaching tool to
strengthen your writing skills and give you a leg up on your competition.
My critiques aren't cheap.
I charge enough to allow me to spend sufficient time with your manuscript to
do a good job, and to give you your money's worth. I could charge less and
breeze through the manuscript, and give you a five to ten page "critique"
consisting mainly of canned material and generic commentary. That's what a
lot of people in this business do. But it would be a waste of my time and
Greenleaf critique typically runs from thirty to fifty pages, depending on the
manuscript's length and needs. The fee is $18 per thousand words, with a
minimum fee of $1,080. Turnaround time is usually six to eight weeks.
